Classy woodworking
The best thing about having classes in my shop is the people I get to know. Most are fairly intelligent, witty, naturally curious and creative. Sounds like most woodworkers you know, doesn’t it? [Read more →]

Just a reminder that the Wood Talk Online contest is coming to an end very soon.
If you’re a Wood Talk Online fan, then you probably already know about the contest. For the one or two of you who don’t know, here’s the info and the questions.
Cabinetmaker, furniture maker, woodworker, period furniture maker, what am I? There are a lot of terms in this business that all amount to the same thing but in this day and age you need to use the “proper” term.
Ok, ok I know it’s been a while again. Since the show in Novi, MI life has been more than a little hectic. Those who know me, and those who’ve talked to me, know that I have lots of things ready to go for the blog. The problem has been finding time to sit in front of a computer long enough to put together a decent post.
If you read my earlier post about the WoodWorks Event at York, PA you already know that the show season has kicked into high gear for us. This past weekend was the WoodWorks Event in Novi, Michigan. And what a great event it was!
Well, the York WoodWorks show has come and gone for 2008. I had a great time at the show exhibiting and presenting a couple of classes. On Friday and Sunday I presented a class entitled “Secret Drawers, Hidden Compartments and Locking Mechanisms”. On Saturday I presented “The Three Essential Power Tools for Beginners”. All three seminars were fun. Hopefully, those attending learned something. I certainly did.
Just a quick note for those blog readers who think I’ve vanished again, I’m still here and I have TONS of blog posts to work on…just lacking the time to get them written the way I want. I did want to let everyone know that our woodworking forums are up and running again. We changed forum programs to eliminate all the free pharmaceutical ads. This means, if you were a registered user of the forum previously, you’ll need to re-register. If you are an Acanthus Workshop alumni, shoot me an email and I’ll make sure you get the password for our alumni only forums. I’ll be monitoring the alumni forums a little closer than the general public ones. If you haven’t taken a class with us, now you have an excuse. Check them out, register, post and have some fun!
A few posts ago I mentioned a stop at Monticello. Today, I’d like to elaborate a bit. The trip was definitely worth the effort. Charlottesville is a nice little city dropped in the middle of some amazing countryside. It’s easy to see why three of our presidents lived in the immediate vicinity.
Ok, so I’ve already posted today. It’s my blog and I’d like to post something else. In fact, it has nothing to do with woodworking…kinda. [Read more →]
